Home Screen

When an account is logged into from the Edsby App, the Home Screen will be the first screen you see as a student.

This screen displays the News River as well as options to access your Settings, Portfolio, Learning Story, Recent Activity, and Launchpad. You can also Logout of the app from this screen.

The News River

The News River runs along the top of the Home Screen when a student first logs in. The newest posts will be visible first, however, students can access older posts by clicking the arrow on the right side. To read the full article, click on the picture of the article in the News River.


You can access your Settings by clicking the arrow next to your name or by clicking Settings.

Here you can access and edit your Login Information, Personal Information, Notification Settings, and Other Settings.

Login Information

View your username and current password by clicking Login Information. Your username cannot be changed.

If it is incorrect or requires updating, contact the school. However, as a student, you can change your password. Type in the new password you wish to use and confirm it by typing it again under Verify Password. Click Save.

The new password is effective immediately.

Personal Information

You can access your Personal Information by selecting this from the Settings menu. If this information is incorrect or requires updating, contact your school.


View and update your Notification Settings by clicking Notifications. Here, you can choose to be notified regarding your Messages, Personal Calendar, Organization, Classes, Groups, or Portfolio.

Click on the row you wish to update. For more information on changing your Notification Settings, click here.

Other Settings

You can change your language preferences by clicking Other Settings.

Select your preferred language using the drop-down menu. Click Save.

You can also change the theme of the Edsby Interface by using the drop-down menu under User Interface Theme. Try out Dark Mode for a fun twist!


You can access your Portfolio from your Home Screen.

Here, posts curated by you will be displayed in the Portfolio feed. The Portfolio is used as a tool to capture your academic and extracurricular success. The Edsby App enables you to easily capture your work in your Portfolio by using the camera on your mobile device. To add a post to your Portfolio, click the + button in the top right corner of the screen.

Fill out the form and click Browse to use an image. Select either an existing image or take a new image by mobile camera to document your work.

A Portfolio post can be saved as a draft or saved and published immediately. Once published, the post will appear in your Portfolio feed.

You can also change your About Me displayed at the top of your Portfolio by clicking Edit, making any changes, and clicking Save.

Learning Story

You can view Evidence teachers have shared regarding your academic achievement by looking at your Learning Story.

You can Like and Comment on posts your teachers have shared in your Learning Story. You can also capture your own evidence by clicking Capture Learning or using the Edsby Capture App. Teachers can share this evidence on your Learning Story as well.

Click Capture Learning and fill out the form to submit your own Learning Evidence.

Recent Activity

You can view a collated feed of any notes, journal entries, or assignments posted by your teachers by clicking Recent Activity on your Home Screen.


Key third-party websites and applications are integrated into Edsby through the Launchpad for quick access. Some examples include Edsby Help Files & Videos, the school website, O365, and Google Docs.

You can also add links to your Launchpad to websites or applications that you would like quick access to. In this example, Lisa Lee would like to add a quick link to her Science teacher’s YouTube help channel. Click the Add Link button in the Launchpad.

Give the link a title and paste the website address in the URL box. Add an optional image icon by clicking Browse. Click Save.

The link will be easily accessible in your Launchpad for quick access.


You can logout of your Edsby account from your Home Screen by clicking Logout.

School and District Pages

The Edsby Mobile App enables convenient access to the school and district pages. To access these, click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Home Screen. Select the name of the school or district to view its page.

Students will be brought to the News Feed of the school where they can view posts made by members of the school. Students can submit an article to post in the News River by clicking the Plus in the upper right corner of the screen.

Students can view the School Calendar by clicking Calendar.

Students can view the School Information by clicking Info. To easily be notified when the school posts a new article, click the bell icon next to the school name.

Navigation Bar

Along the bottom of any screen in the Edsby app is the Navigation Bar with icons for Home, Classes, Groups, Messages, Calendar, and Notifications.

A student’s job is to open unseen posts by clicking the area that has new notifications.


Clicking Classes from the navigation bar brings a student to a screen that shows an overview of the classes a student is taking and their averages in the class if the teacher has chosen to show them.

From the Classes screen, a student can click on any class to view the class feed.

Inside a Class

The class feed provides information about posts from both the teacher and students, if teachers have enabled students to post.

If a teacher has enabled students to post in the class feed, this can be done by clicking the New Note icon in the top right corner of the screen.

A student in the class will be notified each time a new post is made in the class feed.


Click Calendar in the top menu bar in a class to view current and upcoming events or assessments in the class schedule.

My Work

Click My Work in the menu bar to view grades.

Whenever a teacher adds a grade and chooses to make them visible to students, they will be posted in My Work. From here, a student can click on an assessment to post a direct reply if they have any questions or concerns for their teacher regarding the assessment. Students can also submit assessments through My Work if online submissions are permitted. Click Submit to perform an online submission.

Attachments can be added by clicking the attachment icon.

Add a comment. Click Submit when all fields have been filled out.

Students can also view people in the class, the course content, any important pinned items, journals, and the class library by navigating to these from the menu bar across the top of the class screen.


Clicking groups along the navigation bar brings a student to a screen that shows all groups the student is a member of.

From here, a student can click on the icon of any group to view the group feed.

If enabled by the group moderator, members can post either a Note or Poll in the group by clicking the icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Members of a group will be notified every time a new post is made in the group feed.

Click Calendar in the top menu bar of a group to view past, current, and upcoming events specific to the selected group.

Students can also view people in the group, the Knowledge Base, important pinned items, and the group library by navigating to these from the menu bar across the top of the group screen.

Searching in Edsby

You can search for people, Groups, or anything else in Edsby by clicking the Search icon in the top left corner of the Home Screen or Groups panel.

Simply type a search request into the box and suggestions will appear.

To refine your search, click Filters.

You can filter your search to search through People, Groups, Posts, Documents, or other. You can also specify which Group to search in or search by who created the content. Additionally, you can refine the date range to narrow down your search.

Once you have located what you were searching for, simply click on the result.


Students can view their messages by clicking the Messages icon in the navigation bar across the bottom of their screen.

The screen will show a student’s messages with options to:

  1. Search through them
  2. View a message
  3. Compose a new message

Click a message to view the conversation.

To compose a new message, click the New Message icon in the top right corner of the main messages screen.

Fill out the form and click Post.


Clicking the Upcoming icon from the bottom navigation bar brings a student to their Personal Calendar.

This calendar summarizes all past, current, and upcoming events and assessments from all classes and groups a student is a part of. This calendar is visible to the specific student only and is also the place that a student can add a personal event to the calendar for themselves. To add a personal event, click the Add button at the right side of the screen.

Fill out the form and click Save at the bottom.

The event will be added to a student’s personal calendar and will only be visible to them.

Changing Calendar Settings

Click the gear icon at the top right corner of the screen to select what is displayed on the calendar.

Students can select certain groups or classes to be displayed on their personal calendar. Boxes with a checkmark indicate that events and/or assessments from these sections will be added to the student’s personal calendar.


Students can choose to be notified of various activities in various ways through email, Edsby itself, or Mobile Notifications on mobile through their Account Settings. Edsby notifications are found in Notifications from the navigation bar.

Clicking a mobile notification on mobile will place the individual in the appropriate context of the Edsby app where the notification came from. For example, Lisa Lee received a notification from her teacher that some grades have been published.

Clicking this notification will bring her to her My Work within the Edsby App.
