Edsby Mobile App for Parents
Edsby enables parents to keep up-to-date with their children’s schooling at the convenience of their mobile phones by using the Edsby mobile apps.

When an account is logged into from the Edsby App, the Home Screen will be the first screen you see as a parent.
This screen displays the News River as well as options to access your Settings, Recent Activity, and Launchpad. You can also logout of the app from this screen.
Additionally, you will see a list of your children for you to scroll through on your Home Screen. Under each child’s name, you are provided with quick access options regarding your children. From here, you can plan absences and view your child’s Portfolio, Learning Story, Classes, Recent Activity, and Calendar.
The News River
The News River runs along the top of the Home Screen when you first log into the App. The newest posts will be visible first, however, you can access older posts by clicking the arrow on the right side. To read the full article, click on the article’s picture in the News River.
You can access your Settings by clicking the arrow next to your name or by clicking Settings.
Here you can access and edit your Login Information, Personal Information, Profile, Notification Settings, and Other Settings.
View your username and current password by clicking Login Information. Your username cannot be changed.
If it is incorrect or requires updating, contact the school. However, as a parent, you can change your password. Type in the new password you wish to use and confirm it by typing it again under Verify Password. Click Save.
The new password is effective immediately.
You can access your Personal Information by selecting this from the Settings menu. Here, you can change your email, address, and phone numbers visible in Edsby by clicking Change next to the row you wish to update.
The Office will be notified every time you change your Personal Information. You can also view a list of children that are linked to your account through Personal Information.
View and update your Notification Settings by clicking Notifications. Here, you can choose to be notified regarding your Messages, Personal Calendar, Organization, Children, or Group.
Click on the row you wish to update. For more information on changing your Notification Settings, click here.
You can change your language preferences and interface theme by clicking Other Settings.
Select your preferred language using the drop-down menu. Click Save.
You can also change the theme of the Edsby interface by using the drop-down menu under User Interface Theme. Try out Dark Mode for a fun twist!
Key third-party websites and applications are integrated into Edsby through the Launchpad for quick access. Some examples include Edsby Help Files & Videos, the school website, O365, and Google Docs.
You can also add links to your Launchpad to websites or applications that you would like quick access to. In this example, Sara Lee would like to add a quick link to the youtube channel of her child’s teacher for quick access to the teacher’s help videos. Click the Add Link button in the Launchpad.
Give the link a title and paste the website address in the URL box. Add an optional image icon by clicking Browse. Click Save.
The link will be easily accessible in your Launchpad for quick access.
You can logout of your Edsby account from your Home Screen by clicking Logout.
School and District Pages
The Edsby Mobile App enables convenient access to the School and District pages.
To access these, click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Home Screen. Select the name of the School or District to view its page.
If you have children at multiple schools, you will have access to the pages of all schools your children attend. You will be brought to the News Feed of the School where you can view posts made by members of the school.
View the School Calendar by clicking Calendar.
View the School Information by clicking Info. To easily be notified when the School posts a News Article, click the bell icon next to the school name.
The Navigation Bar
Along the bottom of any screen in the Edsby app is the Navigation Bar with icons for Home, Groups, Messages, Calendar, and Notifications.
On the Home Screen, you will see a list of your children that you can scroll through.
Under each child’s name, you are provided with quick access options regarding your children.
Edsby enables you to inform your child’s school of an absence quickly and easily right from your mobile device.
Plan an Absence
Parents can report future absences, partial day absences, and multi-day absences through Edsby. The Plan an Absence option on the Home Screen should be used if your child will be absent at a time other than the current day or for multiple days.
After selecting this, the name of your child will automatically be filled in. Fill out the form by specifying the dates and times your child will be absent for, providing a reason, and an optional comment. When finished, click Send to School Office. The Office will be notified and can approve the Planned Absence.
If your child is going to be away for the whole current day, click Absent Today to open the Planned Absence form.
The name of your child will automatically be filled in the form. Select a reason for the absence. The comment is optional. When the form is complete, click Send to School Office. The Office will review and approve the Planned Absence.
Each student has their own Edsby portfolio, which is similar to a personal blog. In the Portfolio, students create posts about themselves and their academic or extracurricular success. You can view your child’s Portfolio as a feed by clicking Portfolio on the Home Screen under your child’s name.
You can view Evidence teachers have shared regarding your children through your child’s Learning Story.
This feed is available by clicking Learning Story on the Home Screen under your child’s name.
You can Like and Comment on posts your children’s teachers have shared in the Learning Story. You can also capture Learning Evidence for your child using Edsby Capture.
You can see an overview of the Classes your child is taking by clicking Classes next to the name of your child on the Home Screen.
A list of your child’s Classes is visible along with their averages in each class if the teacher has chosen to show them.
From here, if the teacher has enabled parents to enter, you can click on any Class to view the posts the teacher has made in the Class Feed. You will be notified each time the teacher makes a new post in the Class Feed.
Click Calendar in the top menu bar in a class to view overdue, current, and upcoming events or assessments in the class schedule.
Click My Work in the menu bar to view grades. Whenever a teacher adds a grade and chooses to make them visible to students and parents, they will be posted in My Work.
From here, you can click on the assessment for information on changed grades and to see any comments the teacher or student has made regarding the evaluation.
Click Content to view all class Content the teacher has provided for the Class.
You can also view Journals on what was covered each day in class and the Class Library by navigating to these from the menu bar across the top of the Class screen.
You can view posts made by your child’s teachers by clicking Recent Activity under your child’s name on the Home Screen.
Here, new posts, events, and assessments made by any of your child’s teachers will be visible. This enables you to keep up-to-date with all that is happening in the Classes of each of your children.
Clicking Calendar under your child’s name on the Home Screen will bring you to the Personal Calendar of your child.
This calendar summarizes all overdue, current, and upcoming events and assessments from all Classes and Groups your child is a part of, as well as events from the school, district, and those made personally by your child themselves.
You can also plan absences for your child through the Calendar. To plan an absence for your child, select either Absent Today or Schedule Absence from the top of the screen.
Clicking Groups along the Navigation Bar will bring you to a screen that shows all of the Groups you are a member of.
From here, you can click on the icon of any Group to view the Group Feed.
If enabled by the Group moderator, members can post either a Note or Poll in the Group by clicking the icon in the top right corner of the screen.
Members of a Group will be notified every time a new post is made in the Group Feed.
Click Calendar in the top menu bar of a group to view past, current, and upcoming events specific to the selected Group.
You can also view other members in the Group, the Knowledge Base, important Pinned Items, and the Group Library by navigating to these from the menu bar across the top of the Group screen.
Searching in Edsby
You can search for people, groups, posts, or anything else in Edsby by clicking the Search icon in the top left corner of the Home Screen or Groups panel.
Type a search request into the box and suggestions will appear.
To refine your search, click Filters.
You can filter your search to search through People, Groups, Posts, Documents, or other. You can also specify which group to search in or search by who created the content. Additionally, you can refine the date range to narrow down your search.
Once you have located what you were searching for, simply click on the result.
View your Edsby Mailbox and Messages by clicking the Messages icon in the Navigation Bar across the bottom of the screen.
The Edsby Mailbox will show your messages with options to:
- Search through them
- View a message
- Compose a new message
Click a message to view the conversation.
To compose a new message, click the New Message icon in the top right corner of the main messages screen.
Fill in your recipient’s name, type your message, and click Send.
Clicking the Calendar icon in the bottom Navigation Bar will bring you to your Personal Calendar.
This Calendar summarizes all overdue, current, and upcoming events from all the schools and districts your children attend as well as any Groups you are a member of. This Calendar is visible to you only and it is also the place you can add a personal event to the Calendar for yourself.
To add a personal event, click the Add (+) button at the top right of the screen.
Fill out the form and click Save.
The event will be added to your Personal Calendar and will be visible only to you.
Changing Calendar Settings
Click the gear icon at the top right corner of the screen to select what is displayed on the calendar.
Parents can select certain groups, schools or districts to be displayed on their personal calendar. Boxes with a checkmark indicate that events and/or assessments from these sections will be added to the parent’s personal calendar.
Parents can choose to be notified of various activities in various ways through email, Edsby itself, or Mobile Notifications on mobile through their Account Settings. Edsby notifications are found under Notifications from the navigation bar.
Clicking a mobile notification on mobile will place the individual in the appropriate context of the Edsby app where the notification came from. For example, Lisa Lee received a notification from her teacher that some grades have been published.
Clicking this notification will bring her to her My Work within the Edsby App.
